I don’t get much mail and don’t rely upon the Royal Mail but fuck this guy and the current Royal Mail board
I wonder if it will be a forced quick sale to be done before labour can do anything before it’s legally too late.
Royal Mail delivers 6 days a week?! News to me who only gets post roughly once a month, usually complete with an NHS appointment that I’d have missed had I relied on the post. Thank god for the app.
I’m sure Danny has the best interests of both the the RM and the country…yes, that’s definitely it.
What’s that? A private investor saying a public utility they bought of their own free will needs a government handout or else?
Colour me shocked. Shocked, I tell you.
So strange. Royal Mail was fine to the point of generating profit for the exchequer before Georgey Boy Osborne started telling us about all the innovation it needed that privatisation would provide. So many ludicrous errors by The Conservatives.
Can’t wait for the Labour 2028/2029 pledge of GB Mail, GB Water & GB Rail
Needs funds? Don’t buy it then. The British public is not a cash cow for billionaires! Or is it?
But if it fails now so what? Apart from the ability to be easy to send we have the service covered.
Instead.. delivery firms would focus on easy collection.. we’d have to pay a bit more but none of us are sending out lots of letters now and nor need to.
Oh well? Shit business model isn’t it, that’s what a service normally is. Which is why it’s public owned and not for profit.
You chose to buy it though so fuck off or sell up. Prick
1. Buy a massive public utility
2. Immediately start talking about how it needs state funds
Tell you what, let’s just renationalise it and take it off your hands.
No shit!
It’s by design. Deny it’s funding, drive into the ground, claim this bullshit then declare, it needs to be privatised. Repeat.
A privately owned company needs extra funding to survive?
That’s what the shareholders are for.
To all the people who are saying Labour will come to the rescue.
It was Labour and Peter Madelson who started privatising Royal Mail in 2007. I was a postman from 2004-2015. We had Vernon Coaker come to our sorting office to tell us how good privatisation would be for us in 2008. Once the Tories came in to power he came back to our sorting office telling us how we needed to fight privatisation. Our CWU rep called him out on his hypocrisy and he left ten minutes in to an hour long Q&A session.
Yes the Tories are wank but this isn’t just on them.
No amount of money will ever be enough.
What a job the Tories did on the UK, it’s amazing how low things are now.
Obligation to deliver mail?? THE MAIL SYSTEM?? How DARE
Bollocks. The company made a shit ton of money a couple years ago.
Then they bought these shit contracts for new starters in, which meant less pay and working anywhere from 8am – 8pm in and Sundays!
Then add that with the couple months they take to hire anyone (even before the changes) putting more pressure on the posties to get the work done.
My office has been under staffed for years, people get fed up and leave so by the time they hire 1 they lose 2.
They’re bleeding money because they’re too thick to realise they need to keep their staff to make money.
Ohh but they offered us a 9% pay rise but originally wanted to deduct around 10% in supplements.
Fucking let the company crash and burn! And that’s coming from someone who works for royal mail.
If it needs governments intervention then fair enough, nationalise it
Why in the hell was the Royal Mail privatised in the first place ffs. I swear to god this country likes to create it’s own problems just to have a good ol’ moan at how shit things become.
Hopefully it’s nationalised next month at no cost to the taxpayer.
I can see our Govt having to levy a massive fine and carve out the letter division into a new nationalised organisation called Great British Post.
Oh, I see a trend developing…
This guy is the new owner of RM,He will be looking to dump the USO and cut letter deliveries.
Weren’t they managing perfectly well to do that before they were sold? What happened to all the efficiency, driven by competition?
We were all told that we’d have a better service, for less money. Surely that wasn’t a lie?
Privatisation woes aside. Here in Norway we went down to 4 days a week and it works pretty well. It takes getting used to at first, but the mail services are more efficient as a result.
Maybe something to consider. Also post “offices” are now relegated to a section of your local grocery shop.
There’s not much mail anyway these days, apart from online shopping, which more often than not is delivered to said post office/ pick-up point. People mostly get their bills digitally, and some have even opted to receive public services mail digitally as well (Letters from your council, the tax man etc)
Our public mail service was privatised in 2002 (under strict regulations ofc) and unlike other privatisation efforts ( like our railway which is just a mess) works rather well.
I guess what I’m trying to say with my ramblings is that privatisation needn’t be a disaster if it’s done right.
Oh no, you asset stripped a public utility and now you can’t provide the same service and be profitable ? Time to die.
Seems like an easy win for either Labour or Tories to come out and say they’d buy it back. 5bn is nothing. We’re going to lose Saturday deliveries and weekday deliveries will be paid for by the tax payer.
Thatcher must be partying hard in what ever fire pit she currently resides in seeing how privatisation has taken over the UK.
