Hello,
I noticed that nowhere in Switzerland it is possible to buy a portable automatic washing machine (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-BPWM09W-Portable-Washer/dp/B0799Q45TT?th=1 or this one: https://eu.havalab.com/products/t01-portable-washing-machine )
Such machines require no changes in the plumbing and no professional instalation – the inlet connects to the tap, and the output goes to whatever drain you have – bathtub, shower, sink; those models are really popular in USA/Canada/UK.
However, no Swiss shop seems to sell those, and even the online sellers/amazons of the neighboring countries do not deliver those to Switzerland. Are they banned/forbidden to use as a class?

Are portable automatic washing machines banned/forbidden in Switzerland?

  1. Just completely unnecessary I would assume, no demand. Every flat has their own or shared machines anyway, and usually plumbing to put one in.

There are smaller washing machines for sale in Switzerland (3kg capacity). As others have mentioned, Apartments have either shared laundry rooms or their own washer/drier

I have one in my bathroom. But it’s a normal machine we engineered to work with our bathtub tap. I did not know those existed!

  4. You need to at least check with the landlord. It may have insurance coverage issues if anything happens (leakage, power issues, etc)

  5. Most of which I‘ve seen have a 110/120V only electric system. You won’t find those any where outside of North America or Japan.
