  1. > Mature student Hayat Ibrhim, 36, had been having trouble driving her £40,000 2025 Nissan X Trail out of Lookers Nissan

Hmm, that’s a lot of money for a mature student with 3 kids…

    It’s Motability isn’t it?

“Hayat Ibrhim, 36, left Karen Smaali confined to a wheelchair after she accidentally ploughed her brand new SUV into her whilst she was testing it at a car dealership.

Ibrhim mistakenly put her foot on the accelerator and shot forwards crashing into the back of Karen Smaali who was herself purchasing a new vehicle.”

The victim also spoke about being left in a coma for 10 days, had a small stroke, and had to have her leg amputed.

Hayat Ibrhim shouldn’t be driving. I’m also surprised this went to court and wasn’t settled considering the claimants injuries and the defendant’s admission of guilt. I wonder what it was they were contesting.

The only way I can imagine her messing the pedals up like that is if it was automatic and she was used to driving manual and her brain just did a complete fart. Otherwise… how do you mess that up so badly unless you literally have no idea how to drive?

And if the sales person knew she wasn’t sure on the controls why let her drive it in a confined area like a car showroom?

Awful thing to have happened either way, imagine starting your day excited to pick up a new car and someone incapacitates you for life.

  4. It was the issue that releasing the handbrake meant you had to the following. press and hold the brake pedal , press the start engine button and then release the brake pedal.

  5. We have 36 year old students with 7 kids that are able to buy brand new SUVs?

I feel like I live in a totally different UK to other people.

Banned from driving for two years? What a joke system.
Also it doesn’t seem purely accidental to me, considering she seems to be smiling outside of the court.

For 13 years, her faith promised protection, purpose, comfort, and justice. When she was suddenly hit by a car and lost her leg, that belief system was completely contradicted. The question became unavoidable: “If God is loving and protective, why would this happen to me?”

Confined to wheel chair for the rest of her lifetime, Needing help just to use the toilet is a massive blow to dignity and identity. It strips away independence and control over her own body.

Now she understands the world as random, where terrible things can happen to anyone by chance, and where suffering is not distributed by meaning or fairness.

She wishes she had died, therefore dying would have been better, She does not consent to survive like this. This ignores her suffering. It’s inhuman.

  8. That headline is very poorly constructed.

“Mum of seven ploughs into woman in her brand new SUV while test driving it and leaves her in a wheelchair

    Should read

Woman left in wheelchair after being struck by mum of seven in brand new SUV

And the photo choice is also completely wrong.

This will get the permanently angry, angry on their Sunday morning.

Jumping to assumptions and random opinions based on absolutely nothing other than what they want to be any number of reasons.

  10. The vast majority of SUVs should just be banned – they’re stupidly dangerous, completely unwieldy and offer zero benefit over normal cars.

  11. >**as staff member helped her** work the pedals and brake, Ibrhim mistakenly put her foot on the accelerator and shot forwards crashing into the back of Karen

WHY would a staff member give a driving class when the car is pointed at someone?? The injured lady was a few meters in front of the car.
