Italy: The first five-section, low-floor tram has arrived at the Naples depot and is undergoing trials for certification. The new rolling stock is expected to allow for the expansion of the Italian city’s route network and to replace the series 1000 trams, which were built by local enterprises in the 1930s.
The bi-directional tram is reported to have a capacity of 274 passengers, 64 of them seated. Fitted with three bogies, it can reach a speed of 70 km/h. The total power output of its four motors is 380 kW. The vehicle is equipped with batteries providing an autonomous range of up to 2 km. It features a traction drive with silicon carbide traction inverters by Medcom.

It is worth noting that this is the Turkish manufacturer’s first contract in a founding member state of the EU. Until now within the European Union, Bozankaya’s contracts have been limited to Romania – with trams delivered to Timișoara and Iași.
