North Macedonia’s chief anti-graft body, the State Anti-Corruption Commission, may have a new president, but experts are still wondering whether it will get some teeth too.

Lawyer Adem Chuchulj, who began at the DKSK almost two decades ago taking the minutes of meetings, was promoted by a significant majority of MPs to take over from Tatjana Dimitrovska, who resigned in July after prosecutors accused her of sharing “official secrets” with a defendant in a corruption case and computer forgery. She has been officially charged.

Elected in early 2024, Dimitrovska did not launch a single major case during her tenure, which ended under a cloud.

Chuchulj is the first head of the DKSK to come from within its ranks, having been promoted to Secretary General last year.
