Aleksandar Vulin, who heads the Socialist Movement in Serbia, is considered the closest political ally of President Aleksandar Vučić.

Serbia’s decision not to align with the extension of EU sanctions against Russia is the decision of a sovereign state and is possible only if the country remains truly Serbian.

This was stated by Aleksandar Vulin in response to Belgrade’s refusal to join Brussels’ latest sanctions package against Moscow.

“We should not underestimate the attacks and pressure we will face because of this decision. That is why the position taken by our state deserves even greater respect. I commend the president for his determination not to back down and not to align with the European Union, especially since many ministers in his government do not share his stance, which makes the drop in Serbia’s compliance rate with the EU even more significant and valuable,” Vulin said. He argued that “every step toward the European Union is a step further away from Serbia, Russia and China, and after the publication of the new U.S. National Security Strategy, which speaks dismissively about the EU, it is also a step further away from the United States. Serbs, what is it that you don’t understand?”
