What’s wild about it is half the tree has gotten buried over time (obv why the branches are popping out of the ground in random places) the trunk of the tree could be 10 feet down. I have a very similar tree (but even crazier) about a mile from my house (it’s protected and need permission to see it) and it’s 1500 ish yrs old.

I would be waiting there at midnight to see which coven is going to show up 😉

The tree is not crazy, it’s perfectly sane. It’s just doing what trees do when they are allowed to do their own thing.

I’ve been there! It’s an amazing tree. Near Charleston, right?

I used to hunt on a privately owned island in the lowcountry of sc that was full of oaks like this. I loved it because instead of building or carrying in a tree stand, you can just climb up the branches. Paradise!

Reminds me of a live oak at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. Magnificent creatures!
