Too many “other”, needs work on categories, how did you determine what gets labeled and what’s left out?

  2. I f you have Afrobeat then you can ceertainly split out Jazz, Folk and Classical from Other. Is Rock no longer a thing?

  3. I’m kinda shocked at the lack of electronic because when I check monthly listeners of electronic artists they always seem rather higher in average.

Is electronic really not that popular or is it missing some electric categories here?

  4. It is good to note that not all music listeners in a country use Spotify. Probably these lean towards the tastes of younger people

  5. Judging from Others in Sweden & Norway on some weeks, I bet it’s either Melodeath for Sweden or Black Metal for Norway. but love that Norway still pumping up Rap on popular culture while having steady fanbase on Extreme Metal.

Would love to hear more about why Greece leans so hard in a single direction.

Does that genre bleed out into any other countries?

  7. Greece being fully dominated by one top is really interesting, I initially thought the other light blues were the same Laiko, but it probably isn’t?

  8. What’s up with the massive blocks of text over some of the countries? Makes it close to impossible to see a bunch of months.

  9. This is very much not ‘data is beautiful’. If Other is almost the modal category overall you need better categories. Afrobeat only has a presence in a few weeks in the Netherlands but is it’s own category, whereas several countries are almost all ‘Other’, which is probably because Rock/Metal is missing.

  10. Yeah the “other” category is supposed to be the smallest in charts not this.. It’s the biggest category simply because they don’t wanna talk about Rock/Metal (Northern Europe) and Folk-Pop (South and South-Eastern Europe).. Yet Afrobeats is represented even though it’s in like only one county.. wtf
