What was once the cornerstone of any Christmas chocolate and often the cause of fights and disdain towards family members for beating you to it, the Cadbury Roses golden barrell is now officially tasteless.

Had my first one of the season and honestly it was genuinely tasteless, hardly a hint of caramel to be found.

R.I.P to a real one.

A damn shame.

Had a wispa the other day and could only finish half. I dread what the christmas chocolate will be like.

Want to hear even worse news? They’re downgrading the cocoa content in Toffee Crisps and Penguin bars.

My kids asked me to throw out a full tub of Quality Street last year. Even in a sugar-crazed frenzy, they wouldn’t touch them.

  5. All chocolate is awful now. The Americans bought Cadbury and ruined it. I pretty much only eat the “premium” chocolate from Lidl

Unfortunately they are Mondelez now ! The entire Cadbury range is shockingly tasteless now.

  7. not buying any boxes of sweets this year in protest at the size of them, gone to shit altogether. it’s like watching someone with dementia slowly deteriorating every year they are a shadow of what they used to be.

  8. I refuse to buy roses, heroes, celebrations. Need recommendations- got a couple of toblerones. Read Butlers chocolate, Tony chocolate and mallow chocolate all contain a good % cocoa.

    What are ye buying instead.

Is it just greed tho, or is it possible to make nice chocolate and run a successful business lol

The only Cadburys I’d probably still try are the Starbars, you don’t really notice the difference in those (other than how much they have shrunk over the past few years).
The likes of Crunchie and Boost which used to be my fave are just fking horrible now, not forgetting the pink Snacks and Timeout bars which I find tasteless since the chocolate wafer parts were taken out.

Only Aldi and Lidl finest chocolates in our household these days lol

  11. Dunnes simply better milk chocolate is Irish made and 34% cocoa, 3 quid for a 100g, definitely worth it

Please, vote with your wallet. The enshittification of Cadbury started a long time ago when Mondelez bought it. It’s nearing its end stages now, some of their chocolate brands are reaching the point it can no longer be called chocolate anymore due to the amount of cocoa they have replaced with palm oil.

Genuinely, the own brands of lidl and aldi for chocolate are better now. They maintain their high cocoa content with no palm oil additives. The dark chocolate especially is stellar – do not give mondelez a cent of your money, they have ruined your favourites in the name of shareholder returns. Even better, switch to an Irish privately owned company, like Butlers and Lily O’Brien’s, who will never be beholden to enshittification by their shareholders, and the money stays local. Dunnes own brand chocolate is decent as well.

I didn’t have any yet this year and was really looking forward to them . I’d always stick them in the fridge and they’d be AMAZING

  14. I stopped with Roses after they got rid of the coffee rose.

Yeah I liked them. No one else did. And they’ve been dead to me ever since.

i dont want to be rude to you OP but

is this news to you really ?

Chocolate companies have been fucking with their formulas for years now it’s getting worse every year

at this point some of them cannot even legally be classified as chocolate anymore due to their low cocoa count

  16. Lads it’s Tony’s Chocoloney or bust. They’ve committed to not reducing their cocoa content just because it’s more expensive now.

  17. On the topic of chocolate, does anyone know any good chocolate brands around? All the big brands are dirt now
