I always thought the southern half of India was Jainism…

Fun fact: There are more Hindus in Nepal by percentage share of population than India.

Crazy that there are as many Christians as Sikhs and Buddhists combined in India. Even if it still isn’t that significant an amount since you never really think about it much compared to them when it comes to India.

Please forgive my ignorance. When Pakistan and India were being established, didn’t all the Muslims go to Pakistan and all the Hindus go to India?

Probably the best map of religion in India I’ve seen in r/MapPorn.
Is the source the 2011 Census of India?
Edit: Having compared the posted map to Ryne Rohla’s 2015 map of world religions, I’m led to believe this is a copy of Ryne’s work.
I didn’t know Christians actually outnumbered Sikhs in India.

Now this is surprising, from the way my Hindu Indian girlfriend talks you would think the entire south of India was forcibly converted to Christianity. Is this the result of some sort of Hindu nationalist propaganda?

abrahamic religions have upward mobility. It’s why they are the most successful countries.
Yes in Quran the prophet gives women rights and stuff, In Hinduism you are forever in your caste, it’s a slave religion.

I like how the map just trails off at the top in the disputed regions like “yeah you don’t believe they own that part anyway…”

Sikhs make a disproportionate amount of the diaspora so it’s easy to assume they are a larger group in India.
I have met many Sikhs but only one Indian Muslim in my day.

Man it sucks how for more two or three years the same Indian maps from 2011 will keep being posted, because of that census that never arrives, I have been for years been so stoked to see the updated census of the country.

These percentages don’t seem right. Either that, or this illustration is wrong. Proportionalities between the two are not adding up in the slightest.
