Midland’s final job fair of 2025 connected employers and job seekers, offering immediate openings across key industries as the local economy slows onsite.

MIDLAND, Texas — Devin Torres walked from booth to booth seeking a better opportunity to provide for his family. He left his drilling job over the summer to be there for his wife and newborn son.

But after a month of struggling to put food on the table, he took a new job, which he says pays half as much and works him almost seven days a week.

“It’s just been a struggle,” said Torres. “I put it in a month ago to come to this job event. Other than that, I have no days to take my son to the doctor, to work on her citizenship, to do anything I have to do.”

Torres hoped to speak to his former employer about returning at the Midland Job Fair.

Hosted by Job Fairs Now, owner Kim Delapena says it’s designed to connect job seekers with immediate hiring needs across multiple industries. She says in a slowing local economy, bringing employers together provides hope that there are still jobs available.

“We’ve actually had people hired on the spot today,” said Delapena. “So, we know for a fact that it does help. It gives them the ability to let their personality shine and tell them about themselves instead of behind a computer screen. And so, these events are very important.”

And to Torres’ surprise, he was fortunate to have that happen: hired on the spot. He’s now more confident that he can take care of his wife and four-month-old child.

“I’m super blessed,” said Torres. “I didn’t know if they would or not, but I’m glad they did. I guess they liked me and wanted me back.”

Although this was the last Job Fairs Now event for 2025, Delapena says they’ll be right back in January with a Nabors Drilling job fair.
