Contracts have been awarded to leading contractors for key element of the construction of Ocean Winds’ BC-Wind offshore windfarm in Poland
Ocean Winds, the 50-50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie, confirmed it has reached financial close for the offshore windfarm in the Polish sector of the Baltic in early December.
With project finance in place, BC-Wind is now ready to move from the development phase into construction. The windfarm will have a capacity of 390 MW and be built in the Polish exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea, approximately 23 km from the coastline, near the municipalities of Krokowa and Choczewo in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It will use 26 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with a capacity of 14 MW each, equipped with a power boost feature that increases output to 15 MW.
The Polish offshore windfarm is expected to deliver first power in 2028 and, once fully operational, will provide clean, zero-emissions electricity to nearly half a million Polish households.
DEME has been awarded three contracts, for the installation of monopile foundations, inter-array cables and the export cable at the BC-Wind offshore wind project.
DEME will deploy its offshore installation vessel Orion to install 27 monopile foundations, 26 for the wind turbines and one for the offshore substation.
The inter-array and export cable contracts cover the full scope from engineering through to installation. The export cable contract will be carried out in a consortium with Hellenic Cables. DEME will deploy its cable installation vessels Living Stone and Viking Neptun for the work. Installation work is scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
Subsea7 has confirmed the award to Seaway7, part of the Subsea7 Group, of what it described as a ‘sizeable’ contract for the BC-Wind offshore wind project. Seaway7’s scope of work includes transporting and installing 26 transition pieces and an offshore substation. Offshore activity is expected to commence in 2027.
The wind turbines for the Polish project will be installed by Cadeler.
