The government of North Macedonia has decided to dismiss the Chief State Prosecutor, Ljupco Kocevski.

This was announced by the Government Spokesperson, Marija Miteva, emphasizing that with this decision, the procedure that was interrupted due to legal restrictions during the election period is being continued.

The Government proposes to the Parliament to dismiss Kocevski from the position of Public Prosecutor of the Republic of North Macedonia, while the Parliament must later vote on the proposal.

Spokeswoman Miteva said that the chief prosecutor has violated the dignity of this position with serious violations.

“We have ascertained unauthorized disclosure of information and data on judicial cases, thus violating the obligation to protect the secrecy of the procedure according to the law. This has caused damage to the image of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and his personal image. The lack of action in accordance with the obligations provided for in the Constitution, laws and international agreements is another violation. As a result of the violations committed, the impaired functionality of the Public Prosecutor’s Office is evident and its integrity has been seriously damaged,” says Marija Miteva, spokesperson for the RMV Government.

The Chief Prosecutor says the decision is unfounded and political.

“This is their political decision. I will continue to work according to the law, with justice and honesty. The condition for dismissing me is that I have committed a serious disciplinary violation, while the Council of Public Prosecutors has not made such a finding,” says Lupco Kocevski, Chief Prosecutor of the Republic of Macedonia.

This procedure was initially announced on August 1, but was temporarily suspended. Recall that on July 29, Parliament voted for an interpellation regarding the work of Kocevski, who refused to resign.

After the tragedy in Kocani, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski announced the suspension of the procedure to allow the Prosecution to focus on the investigation so as not to waste time.

Now, the issue of the dismissal of Ljubco Kocevski, following the Government’s decision, goes to the final vote in the Assembly.
