You know, when I visited in 2023, I thought that Norwegian tourism to the Appalachians could be a really cool thing to encourage. My husband and I started sketching out models to build a small business specializing in nature tourism for people who live in Caledonian areas to come see the southern half of their mountain range. We live in a great area for wine and cider, as well as peanuts, apples, and pork. We’re near all kinds of fantastic hiking trails and know local guides. Plus, we’re a legal weed state, so offering curated cannabis to vacationers after a good hike in stunning mountains that feel like home seemed like a great idea.
Then Trump got re-elected and we realized that anyone coming here as a tourist is not anyone we would want to be associated with.
