When they invaded the village, the “Šiltos” first forced the Croats into a house. Serb Gojko Pavlović, a fellow resident of the murdered Croats, remained in the village, not abandoning his Croat neighbors, and opposed the slaughter that was to come. He persistently repeated that those Croats had never done any harm to anyone, shouting that three children were among those arrested. His attempts were interrupted by the terrorists firing from a machine gun, killing him on the spot.
Then they killed the captured Croats and burned them together with the house. The village was then completely destroyed, and today it can hardly be reached by a forest road and no one lives there. Of the murdered villagers, only three were found, while the remains of the others, including ten-year-old Darko, fourteen-year-old Željka and nine-year-old Nikolina, are still being searched for. No one was held criminally responsible for the crime in Gornji Jame.
