>OpenAI CEO and co-founder Sam Altman has invested $375 million in Helion and is the company’s board chair. Altman has reportedly recused himself from the deal talks.
>Helion is developing technology to produce renewable energy from nuclear fusion — a potentially limitless source of power, but one that no one has been able to harness in a commercially viable manner.
>The power purchase agreement with Microsoft requires Helion to start generating electricity on a set schedule — or pay financial penalties to the tech company.

I honestly hope this works out- I’ve been shocked lately to read more details about the huge energy needs AI will have in the coming years. A million connections alone would supposedly need the energy of a nuclear reactor.

This sub makes no sense sometimes.
AI uses vast amounts of energy = good
Bitcoin uses vast amounts of energy = bad

There is something very strange with this company Helion and its technology. It is not possible that they have resolved the merger somehow and have not received tons of investment

Fusion will be great when we get it, but unless helion is much further along than they seem then this is just more techbro dipshittery.

So we’re designing AI to be smarter than us and giving it a start with potential limitless power. Even with the 3 laws embedded, I’ve seen enough movies to say “thanks for all the fish”
