The largest battery energy storage capacity in Romania – 200 MW power and 400 MWh capacity – was operationalized on Friday, Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan announced.

‘Today, the largest battery energy storage capacity in Romania was put into operation: 200 MW power and 400 MWh storage capacity. In short: clean and cheap energy, which is stored to be used when it is needed the most,’ Ivan wrote in a post on his Facebook account.

He says that the Nova Power & Gas investment was made in just 6 months, a very short period for a project of such magnitude. ‘Local investors have invested in storage because this is the key to balance and advantageous prices. In fact, if you check POSF, the ANRE comparator, you will find an offer there of under 1 leu/KWh, the first of its kind in the last year!’, he also pointed out.

In his opinion, storage is one of the most efficient solutions through which we can keep costs under control for Romanians. ‘Storage is, at this moment, one of the most efficient solutions through which we can reduce imbalances in the system, better integrate the energy produced by prosumers and, most importantly, keep costs under control for Romanians’, the minister of energy emphasized.

Also on Friday, in Campia Turzii, work began on the 160 MW combined cycle gas power plant, an investment that will ensure ‘secure and constant energy, essential for balancing the system’.

‘We want Romanian energy companies to become regional champions, and for Romania to be a pillar of stability in the region and a key partner of the United States. Congratulations to entrepreneur Teofil Muresan and the E-INFRA group for their vision, involvement and consistency. And, above all, thank you to the people who actually built this project: engineers, technicians, construction teams and all those who helped and made it possible for this investment to become a reality,’ Ivan also wrote on the social network.
