  1. He’s a fine one to talk but I do rather like the concept of of taxes correlating with age before culminating in 100% IHT.

More money when you need it and less money when you don’t, doesn’t matter how successful you are.

  2. Did he not say that he would tax only people between 30 and 60 years old? I thought that was his stance.

  3. I bet he’s paid more in his life to look like Action Mans half Brother, than I’ve ever earned.

  4. I don’t actually care what Jimmy Carr has to say about tax. He’s not a macroeconomist. He can have opinions and if they’re backed up by evidence and empiricism fair enough, but it sounds like more vibes economics to me.

  5. I have never cared for his comedy, and I care even less for his political opinions (or opinions in general).

  6. Tom from LBC works how many hours a day? Why is he got an opinion always on the poor, disabled etc etc but never ever expresses a view that maybe, just maybe, the extreme wealth tax avoiders (like his guest Jimmy) are the problem.

You use our land, people (for employees & customers) government to create wealth for yourself then piss off to another country that supposedly their social problems you hate and that immigration is the problem whilst you piss off to Dubai with your millions whilst the country has people working and needing the basics in life like food banks whilst we have state banquets and more than enough money to solve these problems. Where are the supposed patriots?

Lastly, I’m very happy that half a million kids are being lifted out of poverty.

Tax dodger Jimmy Carr offering what he thinks is productive advice on tax collection. No thanks.

  8. But then how will the old pay for their private care and make old folks homes and retirement community and private health companies rich?

  9. He was just on the radio there saying it’s OK that he dodges tax because he apparently gives to charity.

He also supports the IDF but there you go, that’s presumably why he gets a platform on LBC.

Says the tax dodger and someone who looks like be is an android but a temu one.

A single rich person’s taxes is likely more then what I make in an entire year.

I’ve seen him pop up a few times discussing policy and taxation. He’s resting the waters to run for parliament with Reform isn’t he…

  12. For me, Jimmy Carr like Bill Burr have lost a lot of respect after doing the Riyadh comedy festival.

Honestly, kinda preferred him before he bought into the Joe Rogan “Comedians are the modern day philosophers and wise men”.

More tax won’t solve the problems. Soon the problems will creep up again. It’s lack of international competitiveness. It’s a mindset issue.

Seeing as the fucker won’t even pay his own taxes I think he can fuck off with his opinions…

  16. I think I’d rather get the taxes from millionaire tax dodgers like this cunt than some old lady who has to turn off the heating most days to get by. Might just be me tho.

We need to tax the old and the rich. Or at least stop giving the old such massive handouts.

But we also need some sort of industrial policy so we’re not just battering different bits of a shrinking tax base for more cash.

I would agree. Older had it easy and have reaped all the benefits while closing the door behind them

Every time Carr opens his mouth I don’t trust it.

He’s a tax evading, Saudi money taking, oily man.

  20. He has a point, to be fair.

Taxing wealth doesn’t really work apart from land, but LVT seems unlikely.

Taxing even more is a bit mad, there’s already a massive squeeze on anyone earning over £50k, which isn’t that much anymore (about £30k in 2005 money, where that was a good but very unremarkable salary).

The big issue is old people get handed a ton of state benefits, even when more than a quarter of pensioner households have wealth of more than £1m, and 20% of pensioner individuals have income – pre-state pension – of over £50k.

Currently if my retired dad gets an extra £100, he keeps £80. If I get paid an extra £100, I get to keep £49 – and that’s not including pension deductions, which are binary in-or-out and extemely inadvisable to forego.

Carr’s really turning into a massive cunt , always knew that there was something off about him.

  22. Bubbly_Leave2550 on

It does seem like Carr has decided he’s a bit of a public intellectual these days. He’s a moron obviously, but atleast he used to kind of know it.

  23. Euphoric_Barber_5424 on

Jimmy Carr takes more and more Ls with how increasingly out of touch he has become.

Not agreeing or disagreeing with his stance but I’ve literally just seen this video and he said no tax’s to people up to the age of 20 and no tax’s for people over the age of 60. So I’m really really confused by this whole headline and thread.
