According to an initial version, the coins were bronze; they may have circulated in the territory of the ancient Pantikapaion, as well as in the regions of Macedon and on the island of Rhodes. It is reported that no permits were issued for moving the coins across the border.
The collection was seized pending a court ruling. An expert examination will determine whether they have cultural or historical value.
