The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, paid a visit to the Kingdom of Thailand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

During the visit, the first political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand were held in Bangkok.

The political consultations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov on behalf of the Azerbaijani delegation, and by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijavat Isarabhakdi on behalf of the Thai delegation.

During the consultations, a “Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand” was signed.

Subsequently, the current state of relations and future prospects for development between the two countries in the political, economic-trade, cultural, and tourism fields were discussed.

The importance of further expanding cooperation between the two countries within multilateral platforms was emphasized.

The counterpart was informed about Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, the measures being taken to clear mines from the liberated territories, as well as the large-scale reconstruction and restoration work being carried out in those areas.

At the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Sihasak Phuanqketkeow, satisfaction was expressed with the current level of political relations between the two countries, and it was noted that the opening of the Embassy and the first political consultations would contribute to strengthening cooperation in various fields.

At the same time, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov met with the President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha. During the meeting, the important role of inter-parliamentary relations in the development of bilateral relations was highlighted, and effective cooperation established within multilateral inter-parliamentary platforms was noted with satisfaction.

Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov gave interviews to Thailand’s influential TNN television channel as well as to the parliament’s television channel. He also took part in a ceremony organized by the Embassy in connection with the commemoration day of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev.

In addition, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov delivered a speech on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities at the King Prajadhipok’s Institute operating under the Thai Parliament and answered questions from participants.
