yeah, Taiwan doesn’t have to worry about its own military carrying out a coup, unlike across the pond. LOL!

Honest question to the Chinese: What is wrong with Taiwan being independent, since they obviously want to be, and actually are already doing it?
If you downvote and don’t answer, you have no substance.

China isn’t Russia. I suspect when they go for it they’ll be prepared.

Eh, this is the perfect time for China to go after Taiwan. US is weak under Trump, easily influenced by Putin and Xi. Europe is worried about Ukraine and has its resources occupied against Russian encroachment. The rest of Asia is in a wait and see mode.
Economically, however Taiwan companies have made a lot of investments in Taiwan and those companies and investors will flee to Singapore.
Having visited Taiwan itself, it is mountainous and many of its infrastructure is quite old. Other than TSMC and the cities on the west coast, I’m not sure if there is much value gained by taking over Taiwan.
I would prefer nothing to change and right now I’m seeing more posturing than action for the time being.

Good, that’s what they’ll need to do. They should get wmds. Other countries won’t go to war with China over it though.

If Taiwan does not get guaranteed U.S. intervention then their only hope is to hurt China as much as possible during the invasion. Regardless, if all the damage does not cause the CCP to lose control over China then it won’t matter. The CCP has proven itself entirely focused on nationalism and the complete and utter control of the CCP as the single ruler of China. That is their one and only priority, and they’ve linked so much of to Taiwan especially since Taiwan to this day represents a democratic non CCP controlled “China”. The CCP will pursue Taiwan regardless of how painful the invasion would be.

China should be smart and just court Taiwan as a separate country, build strong ties and rent a base there to do their outward expansion.

This is likely the real reason ram is so expensive the companies with capital and space to pre buy before a regional conflict are doing so in massive quantities

Taiwan needs a set of specilized nuclear weapons intended to destroy the 3 gorges dam. If China thought that would happen they wouldn’t invade.

Interesting communication strategy: statements are issued before events occur, so when those events arrive they appear already accounted for. It also functions as a signal to Western audiences and investors that everything remains under control.
