  1. And when we don’t because that’s an absurd timeline given the state of things, I’m sure it will be Obiden’s fault.

  2. What, are they just going to chuck a few dozen astronauts using bigger and bigger slingshots until one lands on the moon?

    Two years? With this budget?

  3. This is a political promise, it’s because Donald Trump wants it to be while he’s President so he can make it about himself. He promised a manned return in 2024 in his first term because he expected to get reelected in 2020. It was ridiculous then and now.

  4. Here’s the situation. This goal is within our reach. SpaceX and Blue Origin were both contracted to make landing vehicles. These are in heavy development but they have made good progress. There are still hurdles to overcome, such as high flight cadence, upper stage reusability and propellant depots or transfers of large masses of propellant. Then safety issues on Orion’s heat shield, which will transfer the astronauts, and Axiom spacesuits need to be fully validated. If everything goes right 2028 can happen but more realistically it will likely be closer to 2030.

  5. This doesn’t seem thought through given an election at the end of 2028. Say 2029 and then if you hit 2028 it’s a huge double win (you did it and did it early). And if you’re not going to do it, you just don’t admit that.

  6. Let’s feed trumps ego to be the first man on the moon in 50 years …..and then leave him there

I have a lot of faith in our people…. but with what do we plan on starting this project with?

  8. Ain’t happening with the current funding levels and layoffs. Hopefully Issacman can help turn things around.

So does this mean the space cost will be booming once again? At least for the next few years?

If that is a hard deadline, unlike the GOP having a healthcare plan “in two weeks”, then it won’t be good for the astronauts. Under the pressure to pull together a moonshot program in a short time, and with the habitual corruption and incompetence of the regime, we will be seeing manned vehicles failing over and over.

  11. Why? Unless there is some pressing reason to do so besides, “I’m jelly with the indians for getting some good press and I’m concerned that China will try it also soon,” excuse then no, use the money for something else.

  12. In two years? Absolutely no chance. Half the hardware isn’t built yet, yet alone tested – or are they going to restack SA-514 from the KSC visitors centre?

I ask, only half in jest; it’s probably the closest thing to flight ready there is.

  13. Landing on the moon in 2028 would be fantastic but this timeline does feel rather unrealistic.

So much work is still left to be done before we can return to the moon.

2029 / 2030 is much more realistic in my view.

  14. Considering what a shit show NASA has become under Trump, I’ll be shocked if Artemis II even launches.
