The Bahamas has become the 121st country to recognize the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.
The news was confirmed on Friday by Kosovo’s president, Vjosa Osmani, who described this recognition as an important development for strengthening the country’s international subjectivity.
According to Osmani, the recognition by the Bahamas is the result of the diplomatic engagement of Kosovo’s institutions and continuous efforts to expand the network of friendly states in the international arena.
This recognition is the fourth for Kosovo this year.
Earlier, two African countries, Sudan and Kenya, as well as Syria in the Middle East, recognized Kosovo’s independence. These developments mark a return to the pace of recognitions, after a period of several years of stagnation.
In recent years, the recognition process had marked a significant decline, while the last state to recognize Kosovo before this year was Israel, in 2021. After that time, diplomatic efforts were mainly focused on preserving existing recognitions and opposing campaigns for de-recognition.
Kosovo’s institutions have announced that they will continue their commitment to securing new recognitions and advancing the country’s path to international integration.
