For the judges of Milan, Belpietro will have to compensate Open Arms, Emergency, Sea Watch, Mediterranea Saving Humans, SOS Mediteranée and Louise Michel with 10,000 euros each, and the AOI national network with 7,000 euros. The director of Panorama already has appeal announced against the ruling of the Court of Milan, but in case of confirmation the sum to be paid would reach 67 thousand euros
For the cover on "New pirates" Belpietro was accused of former article 57 of the criminal code, i.e. failure to control, which is the responsibility of the director of each newspaper that is jointly responsible for the work of individual journalists who are published on the newspaper. For NGOs, including the Italian Mediterranea, the title and cover photo of the November 22 issue of Panorama were: “untruthful and offensive to the humanitarian work carried out by those who, in the Central Mediterranean, work to rescue human lives”.
