Following the news that US President Donald Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes over 901 billion dollars for defense programs, including Kosovo,

Its embassy in Washington reacted through a post on Facebook, emphasizing that in this way, the United States has reaffirmed its strong support for the Republic of Kosovo.

“The National Defense Authorization Act underscores, among other things, the US commitment to Kosovo’s sovereignty, security, and Euro-Atlantic path, supports the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue based on mutual recognition, and clearly opposes any idea of ??territorial division or border change. Grateful to Congress, the White House, and all those who were committed to the inclusion and adoption of weighty provisions for the Republic of Kosovo,” the Embassy’s announcement states.

The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026 authorizes record annual spending for the US military, reaching $901 billion, or $8 billion more than Trump had requested.

The text of this document specifically mentions the Western Balkans, underlining that reducing the region’s dependence on Russian gas and fossil fuels is in the US national interest, and that Washington should support the membership of the region’s countries in the European Union and NATO.
