Lavrov made these remarks on Saturday. He spoke at the opening of the Russian-African Partnership Forum’s ministerial conference. Egypt’s capital, Cairo, is hosting the event. Over 50 international figures are participating. Attendees include Russian officials and African ministers. Heads of regional and continental organizations are also present.
Lavrov spoke on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stated that African countries have significant economic and human capabilities. They play an increasingly important role in global politics. The continent explicitly confirms its status. It is a key center in the multipolar world order.
He added that constructive cooperation has recently been activated. This covers various fields across Africa. Russia supports African countries in several areas. These include national security provision and solving food problems. Russia also helps combat terrorism and extremism. It aids in overcoming environmental disaster consequences. It also assists in fighting dangerous epidemics.
He explained that the ministerial conference will review the annual plan. This plan is for the Russian-African Partnership Forum (2023-2026). They will also identify new promising directions. These areas include trade, economy, and investments. Significant potential remains untapped in these sectors.
