The Bahamas became the 121st country to recognize the Republic of Kosovo and the fourth this year alone. The year 2025 is considered successful in terms of international recognitions, after a period of nearly five years without results. Former Ambassador Avni Saphiu emphasized that these recognitions are extremely important, as Kosovo has a sufficient number of recognitions that would enable it to join the UN, if not for the Russian veto.
The Bahamas became the fourth country to recognize Kosovo by 2025 alone, marking a revival of this process after a barren period of nearly five years.
This island nation on the North American continent has a population of more than 400,000 inhabitants and covers an area of about 13,900 square kilometers.
Assessing it as a successful year in terms of international recognition, former ambassador Avni Spahiu emphasized that, even though it is not a large country, establishing diplomatic relations with the Bahamas is important.
“I consider Kosovo’s diplomacy as very good news for the state of Kosovo. We now have 121 countries that have recognized the Republic of Kosovo, and this is an optimal number, which would also be enough for membership in the United Nations if it were not for the Russian veto,” said Avni Spahiu, former ambassador.
After mentioning the importance of this year’s recognitions, especially in relation to the impact they may have on the respective regions and continents, the former ambassador emphasized the need to focus on Europe by unblocking integration processes.
“I think that now our diplomacy should be refocused on the five non-recognizing EU states, which today represent a very important axis, which must be broken at all costs, must be broken so that we have at least two of these countries that recognize Kosovo,” said Avni Spahiu, former ambassador.
Earlier this year, Kosovo had three other recognitions: in March from Kenya, in April from Sudan, and in October from Syria.
Before these recognitions, the last one was from Israel based on the agreement of September 4, 2020, at the White House. /Tv Dukagjini/
