The number of women entrepreneurs present in Italy is the highest in the EU of 27. In 2024, the number of VAT numbers held by women present in our country reached the threshold of 1,621,800 units, equal to 16 percent of the total women employed in Italy. Followed by France with 1,531,700 (10.8 percent employed women), Germany with 1,222,300 (6.1 percent) and Spain with 1,136,000 (11.3 percent) (see Tab. 1). It is a very important record which, however, does not erase the negative record attributable to our female employment rate which, although it has started to grow again in recent years, still remains the lowest in the entire EU. In Italy, the growth of businesses led by women also continued in the first 9 months of this year: on average for the first 3 quarters of 2025 the stock was 1,678,500 units (+ 2.7 percent compared to the same period of 2024). Although in absolute terms women entrepreneurs are less than half of their male colleagues, the percentage change recorded in 2025 is more than double compared to the figure referring to male entrepreneurs (+1.1 percent) (see Tab. 2). This was reported by the CGIA Research Office.
- Seven out of ten women run a service or commercial company
71 percent of businesses led by women in Italy concern services/commerce. As of September 30 this year, the sector with the highest number of companies headed by a female entrepreneur is commerce: this sector has 288,411 activities. This is followed by agriculture with 186,781, other services (such as hairdressers, beauticians, tattoo artists, masseuses, laundry cleaners, etc.) with 136,173, and accommodation/catering with 120,744 (see Tab. 3).
- Unlike males, women hire women
The low female employment rate in Italy is mainly attributable to the high domestic work load that falls on women’s shoulders. Unfortunately, our country has historically invested to a limited extent in the development of social services and early childhood, penalizing women in a doubly way. In the absence of adequate investments in these areas, no new jobs have been created which could have been occupied mainly by women. Numerous studies at an international level demonstrate how female entrepreneurship can represent a key to increasing female employment; in fact, women who run businesses tend to hire other women to a significantly greater extent than their male colleagues…

Sono donne imprenditrici oppure donne che fanno da prestanome per il marito “imprenditore” che non fa le cose molto in regola?
Quante di questo sono false partite iva necessarie perché le aziende lo richiedono al posto dell’assunzione?
in attesa del prossimo monologo alle iene dove qualche nipote di imprenditori racconta della fatica di essere donna in Italia
Sono contento di vedere più donne imprenditrici o nel lavoro. A mio parere le donne devono avere più opportunità, anche alla parità a quelli degli uomini. E si, intendo dire che voglio vedere più direttrici nel mondo lavorativo, perchè un’azienda che ha prevalentemente donne offre un’esperienza differente rispetto a quello occupato prevalentemente dai uomini.
EDIT: Io ritengo anche che dovrebbero fare lavori pesanti come muratori e minatori, ma purtroppo non è così, quindi spero per un cambiamento in futuro.
Ci sono sgravi interessanti per le imprenditrici donne, sono certo che un pochino sia anche legato a questo

Quindi lavorano meno donne, ma quelle che lo fanno sono piú furbe?
il numero di donne a cui sono intestate imprese in modo che la responsabilità patrimoniale del marito, probabilmente pregiudicato e/o privo di merito creditizio, non ricada su di lui è maggiore in Italia…

– PMI che si vede anche qua, perché tra le imprenditrici rientrano tutte le migliaia di aziendine minuscole di network marketing o ristorazione/ospitalità
Ennesimo risultato dovuto a discriminazione di stato. Oltre al problema dei prestanome vorrei sottolineare un altro aspetto: imprese femminili che fanno cosa? Quanto i fondi investiti dallo stato aumentano la produttività del paese? Analisi costi benefici?
Lo so che passerò per misogino. Però io onestamente osservo solo imprese femminili del tipo: estetiste parrucchiere etc etc.
Lavori nobili onesti e tutto quanto. Molto bene se una donna che prima non lavorava adesso fa questo.Però quando contribuiscono alla crescita innovativa del paese? Quanto sono strategiche? Quanto reggeranno?
Insomma. Vorrei che si andasse oltre l’analisi quantitativa (quante aziende femminili) verso analisi qualitative (cosa fanno queste aziende?)
