Was back in Middlesbrough to visit my parents the other week at a pretty intense time, and hearing a song about going back home to Middlesbrough at a really intense time certainly helped.
RIP, Chris.

Never realised he was from Middlesborough. I don’t know any of his stuff and Driving Home for Christmas paints a very American picture for me (he literally says freeway at one stage iirc). Class song though, probably my favourite Christmas one. RIP fella.

Pancreatic cancer is the worst. Fuck cancer. RIP Chris. Seen him on Gone Fishing a couple of Christmas ago & only learned he was from Middlesborough then. Didn’t know he was of Irish extraction either.

The Road to Hell is an absolutely stunning album.
Rest in peace, Sir.

Always came across as a decent skin in media, and had a decent back catalogue.
His song Steel River is brilliant, all about the death of the steel industry and the changes it brought….. Brilliant tune, one of many.
For those who only know him for driving home for Christmas, he was a really talented singer and guitar player aside from that. Give on the beach or fool if you think it’s over a listen.

Loved his music when I was growing up in the 80s and his music got a lot of airplay on RTÉ Radio 2. For me, “It’s All Gone” is his most beautiful song. He also loved Ireland and played many gigs here during the 80s, when many other big-name artists didn’t. R.I.P.

Driving home for christmas
Warm winds blowing
Heat ‘n blue sky
And a road that goes forever
I’m going to Texas…
Enjoy it Chris. X

A rain coat and a rose is an absolute banger. And I can hear your heartbeat https://youtu.be/R1Ov8uXovs8?si=jBbKhCo0g0AY4KpD this version. Rip you legend.
Bob Mortimer is a trained undertaker, he’ll be popping him in the coffin no doubt.
Thats a shame, loved that song ‘driving home for christmas’. I’m going to puy it on now and remnind myself if being a teenagwr when it came out
RIP. I have a good few of his tracks on my playlists.
Stainsby Girls is a real foot tapper.
