BEMIDJI — Hospitals and clinics in

Sanford Health’s

Bemidji region will implement visitor restrictions as of 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, due to

a rise in respiratory illnesses.

Hospitals and clinics will put in place the following restrictions for all visitors:

  • Four visitors are allowed to visit per day. It’s recommended that only two visitors are in the room at a time.
  • All visitors 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
  • One visitor may spend the night as an emotional support person.
  • People who are ill or showing symptoms should not visit for the health and well-being of all patients and staff.

Additionally, masks are strongly encouraged for patients and visitors at all locations. Visitors recently exposed to a respiratory illness and/or visiting a patient with a respiratory illness must wear a mask at all times.

Wearing a mask is also required of visitors to the Intensive Care Unit, special care nursery and the Sanford Joe Lueken Cancer Center.

No more than two people may visit the special care nursery at one time, and one of the two visitors must be a parent or caregiver who is wearing an infant identification band. All special care nursery visitors must be 6 years old or older and should always wear a mask in the nursery. Visiting time is limited to 15 minutes.

Visiting hours are between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Specific visitation requests may be accommodated at the discretion of the department director.

Our newsroom sometimes reports stories under the byline “Pioneer Staff Report.” This byline is used when reporters rewrite basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as an email or press release that requires little or no reporting.

Other times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
