[OC] I made graphs about all the tennis players mentioned on Jeopardy!, comparing how often they were asked about during and after their careers, as well as Singles vs. Doubles success.

These graphs plot data about every tennis player who has been mentioned on Jeopardy at least twice and won at least one Major. The data and pictures are mostly from J-Archive and the official ATP and WTA websites, though I used other sites as needed. I made the graphs in Datawrapper and arranged it all in Affinity Designer. My goal was to make it look like a clay tennis court, and hopefully it’s still easy to read.
My biggest surprise was how female tennis players overall are more popular than male ones. Even with the recent “big 3” in men’s tennis, the Williams sisters are more iconic to American audiences. I also didn’t realize how female players are much more likely to be excellent at Singles and Doubles, while men tend to specialize in one or the other (my apologies to the Bryans, who have only been mentioned once on Jeopardy so didn’t make the chart).
As part of my research, I also compared the Jeopardy Archive to two other databases: Online Quiz League and LearnedLeague. LL was similar to Jeopardy, with a rate of about 1/400 clues about tennis, while OQL was twice as high. OQL also skews heavily towards women’s tennis, asking about Iga Swiatek FOUR times in the last few years. All these trivia games love to ask about the Grand Slam events, as well as common terms related to tennis scoring and hitting.
