GASTONIA, N.C. — A longtime local favorite is closing its doors after serving the Charlotte area for nearly 80 years.

“Since 1946, our unwavering commitment has been to provide a dining experience defined by exceptional product quality and dedicated service at a fair value,” the post reads. “We truly wish we could have continued to be a community staple for generations to come.”

Dozens of customers shared their memories of R.O.’s in the comments, including one woman who said her late husband proposed in the parking lot nearly 70 years ago.

“That was our place,” Joyce Smith wrote. “Great memories.”

There is some good news for fans. R.O.’s popular slaw and pimento cheese will still be sold in local grocery stores.
