While most businesses shutter the windows and lock the doors for Christmas, the opposite seems to be true on New Year’s.

With a few exceptions, retailers and restauranteurs welcome diners and shoppers on the first day of the year.

Here are some of the places that will welcome your Christmas cash and gift cards on the last day of 2025 and the first of 2026. Hours may vary:

Sam’s Club, however, will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Additionally, most fast food restaurants will be open, possibly with holiday-adjusted hours.

Finding black-eyed peas should be no problem. Most major grocers are open on New Year’s Day. The two exceptions are Aldi and Natural Grocers. Aldi will close at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and be closed on New Year’s Day. Natural Grovers will close at 6:06 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and remain closed through New Year’s Day.

These retailers with grocery sections will be open normal hours on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Dining out should be easy on New Year’s Eve and Jan. 1. Many restaurants will be open:

Cinemark and AMC theaters will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
