At the park, **I stayed in my closed car. I soon saw them sitting there, hidden in the park. I called the police again, but I got the same answer: ‘We’ll report it.'”**
>At that point, the youths attacked the passerby. “Then I got out to help the man. I mostly remember his screams and cries for help. We walked toward the victim with two girls. Then one of the perpetrators must have recognized me from the dating app. They formed a circle around me and beat me up. Luckily, they left the girls alone.”
>The twenty-something man needed five stitches from the incident, but felt better four days later. “I’m especially shocked by the incident and disappointed with the police’s response. The neighbors helped us and called emergency services, and they did a good job. But if I had been taken seriously beforehand, this wouldn’t have happened.”
**Leuven Police spokesperson Marc Vranckx reacted with surprise. “I’m absolutely not aware of any reports, but we take these kinds of things very seriously,” he said. “We always send a team to reports.**
What a shitshow.
1/ het jongste slachtoffer die een afspraakje regelt met een profiel waarvan hij weet dat het hoogstwaarschijnlijk jonge gastjes zijn met slecht intenties waardoor een toevallige voorbijganger slaag krijgt
2/ de politie die doet alsof de neus bloedt, zowel bij de eerste melding, als nu hun woordvoerder in de media
3/ het gerecht dat zijn uiterste best doet om de daders toch niet teveel ter verantwoording te roepen
4/ zieke daders die opgenaaid zijn door hun omgeving en hoogst waarschijnlijk sociale media
Wordt helaas weinig aan gedaan.
Ik ben zelf niet straight maar ik zie er straight uit. Ik kan iedereen garanderen dat in situaties waar het wel duidelijk is dat ik niet straight ben, ik heel voorzichtig moet zijn.
En dat heeft niets te maken met vreemdelingen per se. Neen. Doorheen de jaren heb ik twee keer echt fysiek geweld meegemaakt. Één keer door vreemdelingen, en één keer door typische Vlaamse fils a papas. Verbale zaken? Helaas meer vreemdelingen, maar niet veel meer dan gewoon Belgen. Make of that what you will.
En wanneer ze het wel serieus nemen? Goh. Veel getuigen. Bekende mensen. Of twee vrouwen. Of wanneer er een dode valt. Anders waait het quasi direct over. Ik ben al blij dat dit artikel even blijft plakken.
En dan zijn er zo van die kiekens die gaan gaan zeggen van “ja, die jongen moet beter weten en voorzichtiger zijn”. Serieus? Wat is het verschil met een hetero date?
We scoren als België heel hoog op leefbaarheid voor LGBTQ-peeps. Dat is iets waar ik heel dankbaar voor ben. Maar de keren dat het fout loopt mag je gerust de pijnpunten bloot leggen. De politie neemt dit soms serieus, maar vaak is het gewoon een melding en daar blijft het bij. Frappant.
Tot slot wel even zeggen, probeer niet deze soort mensen te baiten. Het eindigt alleen maar in geweld.
