  1. Best-case scenario is the Donbas becomes another Korea, with an international force enforcing the DMZ.

  2. Russia will not respect this. They will violate the agreement and put troops in the DMZ anyway, and nobody will be willing to force them out. It will give Russia time to reinforce its defenses and make it more difficult for Ukraine to take back its land.

All of Donbas and Crimea? I hope the return of all those deported to Russia is in there too. Europe needs to step up Putin will not give that.

I really feel sorry for Zelensky. He knows, and We know, that you cannot trust Russia. Any peace treaty will be broken at some stage.

  5. Restore borders to before the crimea annexation. Put the DMZ a few miles deep in the Russian side.

  6. A demilitarized zone makes sense, if it goes 1000km into Russia from all Eastern neighbor borders.

  7. Can they just include security assurances from someone that would actually jump in ? Poland was pretty excitable when all this started.

A DMZ wouldnt mean any Russian troops/administrators/police there right? Like an internationally controlled zone if I understand this right

  9. Many redditors seem to mistakingly think Ukraine is winning this war.

I’ll take the downvotes for not seeing the emperor’s new clothes.

  10. Putin has to have Donetsk – he will lose too much face if he doesn’t get it…

He won’t get it without taking it by force, and so the stalemate continues.

Trumpin is restricting support, Europe has to step up.

I remember week one of this where someone posted satellite imagery that showed Russia was storing tons of military vehicles in multiple places along the Ukranian boarder

  12. Im sorry to say this, but this is not going to end well. Russia will take all of Ukraine, even if it takes years. And before anyone says that it’s taken him years to only make small progress… while true, he will up the game, so to speak, sadly.

  13. Zelenskyy knows that Russia will not accept this and is just trying to make it clearer for the thicker members of the international community that Russia just wants the land.

The only “demilitarised” area Russia accept is on land currently held by Ukraine, so Russia can come up with another BS cassus belli, zerg rush the land and occupy that too.

    Sure Demilitarize the following:

    Krasnodar
    Rostov
    Voronezh
    Kursk
    Bryansk

Get the military out of there, should be good.

So basically east and west Ukraine. Separated by a heavily mined and militarily monitored parcel of land. This won’t end well. Soon we will have East Ukraine and West Ukraine.

Been calling this from the very very beginning and I still hold firmly that the outcome of this was always going to be a situation similar to NK/SK. Demilitarized zone, but an “ongoing war” with a ceasefire.

People who think Russia will agree to pull out of Ukraine now are delusional. It’s like thinking Israel will pull out of Gaza to create a none military zone now..

  18. i think realistically, this is just a case of calling putins bluff. As basicly Putins main lifeline is Trump staying in power for the forseeable future and beyond the next presidency where you’d keep a trump-like figurehead. However, with how unpopular trumps actions are and the whole epstein files looking pretty damning (not that anything will happen directly because of them anyway mind you) it seems likely republicans are going to lose a decent amount of ground either in the senate/house or just the presidency itself.

Which means that if it takes russia lets say more then 3 years to build back up, they would then have to also fight against an america that will likely defend ukraine. So this is where the bluff comes in. Either putin agree’s with this and it will give them very little time to regroup and reignite the war. OR he declines, which will mean he is going to create more ire from trump and his followers because they want the war to end and being able to get credit for it.

Either way you call it, it’s kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation for putin. However, likely nothing will happen with this and the war just continues

  19. They had this agreement 15 years ago and Russia like usual broke a deal, they aren’t going to listen.
