Is this really art, or is it more like a performance? In my opinion, this kind of “art” is interesting, but it also makes me think. Sometimes it looks like the artwork is already finished and the person is only pretending to work. For me, it feels more like a show for the public than a real artistic process. Still, I would like to know what other people think about this kind of art.

Why do you think a performance is not a kind of art?
I also thought it was just a show when I saw it. But I still think it looks pretty cool.
Definitely no art. All of these people doing always the same figure, cause they don’t know anything else. It’s not that smart doing the same thing for years now. At least I can’t believe people are still impressed by the sand dogs.
This ist a scam. This is a model with glued on sand, and then they pretend to work on it to get money. You can step on it and will step on plastic. They were rampant in Europe a few years back, please do not give them money.
This is in Göttingen right? have seen this exact sand structure countless times. Its a scam artist just like the people playing instruments. No real performance.
These sand dogs in particular feel like a scam or something, ive seen that exact thing in multiple cities now

Performances can be art, but what defines art for me is that there is some thought behind it. Things like this don’t usually have that, so to me, they‘re more of a craft. And in this particular case, it’s not even that, but a repetitive scam.
I think this pic is from Wiesbaden or Mainz. same guy has been doing the exact same dog, for at least a decade in various places.
It’s not real art. It’s a mold that they all use. I one saw the very same dog sculpture on 4 different spots on a day from different beggars.
I saw one in Nürnberg which was fake, it’s a mould underneath
This is 100% a scam.
They are just shoveling a teaspoon of sand up and down the rug. The main part of the “art work” is already made and glued together so that it does not fall apart any more. All the “working” on it is just the guy scratching in the sand pretending they would need to finish with some touch-ups.
Nobody stays for long enough near these spots to actually watch them build something, and they bet on nobody really caring that much that they stay and wait for the “artist” to start anew. All they long, passers-by just happen to see the artwork in the last minutes of completion. for ten hours.
Coburg Wuhu!
What do you mean by scam? The sculpture is plastic, not sand.
Actually this guy is a beggar but at least he performs for the money he gets.
The question should rather be: is he part of Bettel-Mafia?
Another gipsy building bullshit to beg for money …
Its a nuisance. I would call the Ordnungsamt. I am sure this person doesnt have a Sondernutzungsgenehmigung für öffentliche Straßen.
Scam, saw this is Bremen… Exactly the same dog 😂
Have seen that in Bremen. Always the same thing.
Was this in Hannover ? I think I saw that exact sand sculpture
can you please explain what the difference for you is? performance art (like shows for the public) is still art.
about the thing itself: never seen those irl, so no opinion either way.
They’re everywhere in Italy too, what I don’t get is why everyone is using the exact same dog mold, I’m guessing there must be that dog already made on AliExpress or something and they don’t do other shapes…
I used to like them, but it’s just an easy performance to get people to give him money
He’s also been to Eisenach 🙂 I’d like to comment on a picture.
I have seen the same in Kaiserslautern. It’s never half done, always ready.
Neither. It is a plastic shell next to a beggar who probably makes more money than you do.
“Sometimes it looks like the artwork is already finished and the person is only pretending to work”
No shit Sherlock, thats exactly what is happening 😀 Typical scam from organizied beggars.
Thats just beggars. They are organized. Theres a high chance he has to give what he made to the people that brought him to germany.
Its a whole topic here in germany with illegal immigrants organizing together just to beg on the streets.
Some learn one song in the accordion and walk through public transport all day, playing this one song.
Others sitting on the streets with signs they write for eachother and share them around.
I live in munich and its really prevalent here
Hallo coburg 🤣
Is this the Aschaffenburg Guy?
I’ve seen this in many cities I’ve visited. I once had the feeling it was the same man.
Just a new begging trick, right?
