  1. And at no point anyone asked what dinner would be?

Sounds like it’s a them problem.

Enjoy your dinner of deconstructed eggs and grey!

  2. What did they expect? My mum was Swedish and if you asked her the same this is exactly what you’d expect to be served!

Jesus Christ…there’s been some hot contenders for shite looking dinners today but this would be hard to beat

Eggs , (pickled?)herring and something else that im not sure what.. eigher way, not really sure whats the problem here. Maybe i would just complain over the ammount of it as i would starve with that.

I guess they had no idea of what it would be so only to blame themselves. I would enjoy it. Really would.

  5. A nice lesson that cultures can be very different!

Having said that, I lived in Sweden for a while and probably wouldn’t ask for a Swedish Christmas dinner again haha, except for maybe the meatballs

If you need any foreign aid over there in Sweden let us know. We’ll put some Trocaire boxes together.

Aww I feel really bad for you cause I’m sure you went to a lot of effort to make this.
Can you give a bit more backstory on both who asked you to cook and why and also what the food is?

  8. My Swedish sister-in-law made Jansson’s Temptation (potato/onion/cream/anchovies) for Christmas one year. She prepared it in Dublin then drove to Mayo with it. It became noticeably smelly by Castlebar so we transferred it directly into the bin on arrival.

  9. Herring, egg and pike caviar, thats a great dinner for me. I would add boiled young potatoes with butter and shot of vodka

  10. “The main will be rotten fish, stored in a jar underground for one year. For dessert, frozen salt licorice pie, followed by a digestif of a traditional highly alcoholic seaweed drink from the 1300s. Nollaig shona daoibh!”.
