Filip Adžić, an official of the Civic Movement (GP) URA, said that since Montenegro gained independence, this has been the most tragic year in terms of the number of murders, which are only a third less than during the war years of the 1990s.
“This year, 27 murders have occurred in Montenegro, taking into account publicly available data, and I fear that there may be more. I am talking not only about the showdowns between criminal structures, but about all the murders that have occurred in Montenegro,” Adžić said in a statement.
He said that in 1993 or 1994 there were 40 to 50 murders, and that from that period until today, this many of the most serious crimes have not been recorded annually.
“When it comes to the fight against criminal structures, nine citizens of Montenegro were killed this year, seven on the territory of our country, which is also a huge number that warns and says that the situation has gotten out of control and that, no matter how much effort is put in, the numbers are catastrophic,” said Adžić.
He said that last year there were seven liquidations in the showdowns between criminal structures, but that 90 percent of them were solved.
“When it comes to this year, we have about 60 percent of unsolved crimes. In these seven confrontations, we have four victims, for whom we still do not know who the perpetrators of these crimes are. That is a very bad statistic. Although I do not like, and it is very difficult for me, when it comes to human lives, to talk about percentages, it is an alarm that must wake us all up,” said Adžić.
He said that Montenegro does not deserve to be ranked the worst in Europe on this issue and that all people involved in security should contribute and help because the overall situation is not going in the right direction.
