You cannot choose your family, and the festive Christmas period once again proved a reminder of that, with the Grand Ducal police intervening in several family homes across Luxembourg.

On Thursday morning, officers had to intervene around a dozen times on Christmas Eve due to disputes and, in some cases, physical altercations. However, all incidents were either resolved on the spot or had already ended by the time officers arrived.

In addition, police were called to around ten family disputes. In two cases, one in Dudelange and one in Wasserbillig, a person was ordered to leave the home by the public prosecutor’s office.

On Christmas Eve, police also received a further 15 calls relating to noise complaints. These situations were likewise dealt with on the spot.

Drink-driving

Two motorists were stopped for drink-driving and had their licences confiscated. The first driver was stopped shortly after midnight, on the A4 motorway towards Esch-sur-Alzette, travelling at excessive speed. His behaviour immediately raised suspicions, which were confirmed by a breathalyser test. The vehicle was immobilised and his driving licence was taken away.

Earlier in the day, at around 5.15pm, another driver was stopped on the Nordstrooss towards Ettelbruck after being observed driving under the influence of alcohol. The police discovered that the man had already had his licence withdrawn a few months earlier for a similar offence.
