Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze expressed hope that 2026 will be a politically calm year for the country, APA reports.
“I think we’ll have a calm future, and in the years to come, in terms of domestic politics. We have no elections planned. The opposition is extremely weakened. We have our agenda, which requires radical changes to the nature of our democratic system,” Kobakhidze said in a pre-New Year interview with the Imedi TV channel .
As the head of the Georgian government noted, the Constitutional Court’s decision on the lawsuit to ban former President Mikheil Saakashvili’s United National Movement party, as well as the political groups Coalition for Change and Strong Georgia, will be crucial for improving the country’s democratic system. The lawsuit was filed by the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party in October 2025
