Unusual (less touristy) things to do/see in the circled area.
We’re going to this part of Switzerland/
Austria for a week. Yes, we will stop at Neuschwanstein Castle because we haven’t seen it and crowds will be less in January. I used to ski St Anton and explore this area somewhat, but it’s been decades, and we’re looking for interesting and maybe a little spooky things to see and do.

Mostly not Austria?
less touristy=don’t visit Innsbruck (cannot recommend – Innsbruck is the best said area has to offer)
In winter there is almost no tourist in Austria, so go wherever you like you will see only locals.
Innsbruck. You will still find tourists, as it is a town, but it is beautiful. I was there last year at the same time.
