President Lee Jae Myung is set to begin work at Cheong Wa Dae on Monday, marking the official return of the presidential office to the former presidential compound in central Seoul.
The move comes about three years and seven months after former President Yoon Suk Yeol renamed the top office the “Presidential Office” and relocated it to the Defense Ministry complex in Seoul’s Yongsan District in May 2022.
The presidential flag bearing two phoenixes at the current office will be lowered at midnight Sunday and raised simultaneously at Cheong Wa Dae.
The official name of the presidential office will also revert to “Cheong Wa Dae,” and its emblem will return to the design used during the previous Cheong Wa Dae era.
The shift effectively ends the “Yongsan era” and completes the transition back to Cheong Wa Dae.
