Due to the extent of British Empire and the subsequent rise of the United States as a global superpower, British and American nationals can be found just about anywhere on the globe due to a wide variety of reasons.

For the British, many of the countries in blue are either places that are popular amongst retirees, have a deep connection to the Empire, or are British-born nationals who are returning back to live in their family’s ancestral country.

For Americans, many of the countries in green are either places that have significant presences from US military bases, are popular amongst retirees/digital nomads, or are American-born nationals who are returning to live in their family’s ancestral country (this explains most of LATAM being green).

Pretty crazy there are any British ones considering the US has five times the population

  3. UK loves countries with higher life expectancy and healthcare, US loves countries you can easily get a gun?

  4. I’d probably swap round the dark and light colours so that the UK and US are dark and the “more nationals” are light – I think that makes more intuitive sense as it works like a heatmap. But just personal preference and obviously not a big deal because everyone knows where the US and UK are.
