The voting process in the northern municipalities has so far passed without incident, while illegal entries from Serbia to vote have been prohibited.
Veton Elshani, deputy director of the northern region, told KosovaPress that since the early hours of the morning, when the polling stations in the north of the country opened, we have not initiated any case for investigation until now.
“We have had several cases of various verifications that we have carried out, such as in Zubin Potok, Leposavic, Socanica and other cities, but we do not have any cases to highlight. We are in constant contact with the CEC and the State Prosecutor’s Office,” he said, while talking about the measures they have taken to prevent illegal entry from Serbia to vote.
“Earlier, during the last elections, we had information that people were coming through illegal routes, specifically from the Brnjaku bridge, crossing to us and then continuing to the north of the country. We stopped this then, but we have stopped it now as well in advance. This was the reason why these measures were taken. We also coordinated with the Border Police, as the boats are there, as well as with KFOR. We did not have any cases of stopping anyone, as those people returned from that route,” he said.
Elshani also commented on the organized voting of the Serbian List.
“In the morning hours, we also had an organized vote, so-called, from “Tsar Lazari” Square and then towards the voting centers. This has also happened in other municipalities in the north of the country and has been a repeated practice in the past. We have notified the CEC and the State Prosecutor’s Office about this, but we have not had the opportunity to open it,” he said.
He added that there is a general plan at the Kosovo level regarding the elections being held today and that they are part of that plan, but with some specifics because they are a border area with Serbia.
He added that there are many illegal roads in the north and all of them are covered by the Border Police, and yesterday also by KFOR units, within the framework of the joint cooperation we have.
According to him, so far no incident has occurred in the north. /kp/
