Panic has spread across NATO nations and Europe after Russia deployed its hypersonic-capable Oreshnik missile system close to the European frontier. As Western capitals speculate over Moscow’s next move, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has attempted to calm fears — while simultaneously issuing a stern warning. In an interview with TASS, Lavrov said NATO has “no need to be afraid,” but stressed that any attack on Russia would be met with a devastating response. Lavrov also accused the European Union of being the main obstacle to peace in Ukraine, claiming Brussels is openly preparing for war with Russia and continuing to arm Kyiv. His remarks come amid growing tensions, stalled peace efforts, and renewed fears of escalation following Russia’s battlefield advances and Putin’s latest military deployments.
