Croatia has signed a multinational framework contract with Tatra to purchase the Czech company’s T-815 military trucks, enabling the Croatian Armed Forces to order up to 420 vehicles in 6×6 and 8×8 configurations.

Officials from the Czech Ministry of Defence’s Armament and Acquisitions Section and Croatia’s Armaments Directorate finalized the amendment in Prague with Tatra Defence Systems CEO Marek Sekanina, allowing the Balkan state to participate in the program.

Croatia’s acquisition follows Slovakia’s earlier signing onto the effort, which according to Tatra, reflects “growing interest of the alliance in the proven technology.”

“The joint contract strengthens international cooperation in the field of defense technology, enables more efficient procurement of military vehicles, and at the same time supports the long-term export activities of the Czech defense industry,” the company said.

Deal With Slovakia

Tatra confirmed the original framework contract with Zagreb in mid-December, covering T-815 trucks in 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 variants across 24 configurations.

This separate agreement establishes a long-term approach for the Slovak Armed Forces to acquire vehicles based on operational requirements.

The contract sets a total cost of 1.03 billion euros ($1.1 billion), excluding value-added tax, for orders placed throughout the initiative.

Sekanina signed the deal with Bratislava’s Defence Modernization Section and National Armaments Director Martin Čatloš to activate the process.

The Tatra Force

The T-815 military truck, also called the T-815-7, T-817, or “Tatra Force,” is based on Tatra’s commercial system of the same name introduced in the 1980s as a workhorse platform for heavy transport tasks.

The tactical model was first produced in 2007 and has since been built in 4×4 to 10×10 variants for international users.

Beyond logistics, its chassis also supports roles beyond logistics, including armored personnel carriers, mine-resistant ambush vehicles, self-propelled artillery and rocket systems.

Tatra Force has a length of 9 meters (30 feet), a weight of 13,300 kilograms (29,321 pounds), and a fuel capacity of 420 liters.

It is equipped with a Tatra T3C-928-90 V8 air-cooled turbocharged engine, which has an output of about 400 horsepower for a maximum speed of 115 kilometers (71 miles) per hour and a range of 750 kilometers (466 miles).
