COVINGTON, Ky. (WXIX) – A beloved bartender at a Mainstrasse bar is retiring after more than 30 years to focus on her health following a breast cancer diagnosis.

Teri Kiefer worked at Strasse Haus for over three decades. Friends and family threw her a retirement party Monday night.

“We call her Mama Teri,” said coworker Britny. “She takes care of everybody. Mama is Mama, from being fed, to the drinks you have, all the way down to whether you ate today.”

Britny said Kiefer is the go-to person for any coworker for anything.

Kiefer said she is taking time off after being diagnosed with breast cancer to rest and focus on treatment. She was emotional when she said she would miss the bar and the people most of all.

“I’ve yelled at all of them, I’ve cried with them, I’ve been at funerals with them, been at weddings with them, and they’re all pretty cool,” Kiefer said of her patrons.

Kiefer said she will take January off before beginning treatment. She will spend time with her husband, four children and eight grandchildren.
