LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Western Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden visited a veteran-owned business Monday to highlight the impact these enterprises have on local communities and veteran mental health.
Van Orden sat in on a dog training class at Rising Starr K9’s during his visit to the La Crosse area. The congressman used the opportunity to discuss how entrepreneurship and immediate employment can benefit veterans as they transition back to civilian life.
“It’s really important we support our veteran owned businesses, and other business. But I think it’s really important we get our vets employed immediately following their service. It helps them readjust back to civilian life,” Van Orden said.
During his time at the business, he promoted the recent passage of the Veteran Home Loan Program Act, which he sponsored.
Van Orden said the legislation will reduce the financial burden on taxpayers while ensuring veterans can remain in their homes. Addressing concerns about the sustainability of previous veteran home loan programs and creating a more efficient system.
