Blustery conditions are forecast to ease overnight, bringing lighter winds across Iceland on New Year’s Eve, according to the Icelandic Met Office.
Westerly winds will affect much of the country today, becoming stronger as the day goes on, particularly in northern areas. Wind speeds there could reach up to 20 metres per second this evening, while southern regions are expected to see calmer conditions.
By early morning, winds are predicted to drop, leading to generally light breezes as the year draws to a close.
Yellow Weather Alert for the Eastfjords
Weather conditions will vary across the country. Western areas are likely to see occasional drizzle or light rain, while clearer skies are expected in the east. Temperatures are forecast to range between 0 and 6 Celsius.
Despite the quieter outlook, weather warnings remain in place. Yellow warnings for north-westerly gales or storms have been issued for Southeast Iceland and the Eastfjords.
