“A 20-year-old man, who police say is originally from Afghanistan, has been arrested on suspicion of five counts of wounding with intent, affray and criminal damage.

Merseyside Police say the incident began when a man attended Newton Community Hospital, in Newton-Le-Willows, on Tuesday afternoon and requested an appointment.

“At this stage, it is believed that his request was declined, and when he was asked to leave, he became increasingly agitated and damaged a counter before assaulting several people inside the hospital, with a weapon – possibly a crowbar,” a police spokesperson said.

“Those who were injured are currently being treated by paramedics at the hospital for injuries, which are not life threatening,” they added.”

A disgusting assault on patients and staff.

  2. I think i know where the majority of the comments will go, so I will jump in with my question.

Did this man just walk into a clinic carrying a crowbar and request an appointment or do some clinics have some kind of communal crowbar available for use in these situations?

Just a thought – it’s possible that he knew he was in a mental health crisis and was seeking help. Being refused help may have tipped him over the edge.

For some context: these people come from a culture/region where a functional jurisdical system or public services are basically non-existant. So if you want to get anything done for you, you have to “help” yourself (eg: mob-justice, bribery, intimidation etc). Yes its archaic, but it often works or at least “feels more efficient”. Western countries need to put effort into convincing the entire populace that going the “official way” is always the better option. Otherwise such attavistic behaviour will always resurface
